Seattle Seahawks: Four Takeaways from Week 14 21-7 victory
The Seattle Seahawks have the winningest percentage in primetime since the 2006 season and they showed their primetime dominance Monday night against the Minnesota Vikings with a 21-7 victory.
Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins came into Monday night with a 0-6 Monday Night Football record. The Seattle Seahawks knocked him down to a 0-7 MNF record. Although Seattle had a poor air attack, their defensive performance and offensive run game that recorded 214 rushing yards, dominated the Minnesota Vikings on all sides of the field. Russell Wilson became the quarterback with the most wins on Monday night since his debut in 2012 with seven wins.
The Seattle Seahawks are gaining a full head of steam going into the postseason in a year where no one had hope in them. They continue to prove the critics wrong. Here are a few takeaways from this weeks game and what the victory means:
Frank Clark‘s Defense?
Before the week 13 matchup between the Seahawks and the 49ers, ex-Seahawk Richard Sherman claimed the Seahawks were just “middle of the road”, a few days later the Seahawks put the beatdown on Sherman’s current team.
After the Monday night victory against the Vikings, Seahawks Defensive End Frank Clark claimed that what Sherman has to say doesn’t matter and that his era is over. Clark told reporters that “at the end of the day this is my team, this is my defense.”
Besides Linebacker Bobby Wagner, Frank Clark might actually be the leader of this defense. Clark has recorded 11 sacks in 13 games and is looking for a contract extension at the end of this season, it would be a mistake for Seattle to not either give Clark an extension or give him the franchise tag. This may not be Frank Clark’s team, but this team wouldn’t be the same without #55 on the D-line.
Dominance in the Defense is Back
One Strip-Six. One blocked Field Goal. One goal-line stand. Two turnovers on downs. Only 285 yards allowed. A stellar performance by both Shaquill Griffin and Trey Flowers. This isn’t the Legion of Boom, but this is something great in the making. Seattle is one of the only teams to hold WR Adam Thielen to under 100-yards this season and that is all due to the shutdown coverage provided by our secondary.

Though the blocked kick should’ve been penalized, it wasn’t. This new squad is young and hungry and with each game, they get better and better. Pete Carroll has done it again, the oldest coach in the league and he is still building stellar squads.
Russell Wilson’s legs still work
Monday night was probably Russell Wilson’s worst game through the air, but he proved to the fans that he still has the ability to use his legs to work magic including a 40-yard scramble that we all thought was going to go all the way. Wilson rushed for 61 yards, which was the second most on the team.
Every fan has been wondering when Wilson was going to start using his legs again after dealing with hamstring issues at the beginning of the season, over the last few weeks he has slowly started to incorporate it back into the game and it has been a wonderful thing to have back.
Playoff bound
With the win over the Vikings, it put the Seattle Seahawks within one win of clinching a playoff berth. If the Seahawks next week against the 49ers they will have a birth clinched, if they win and the Vikings lose against the Dolphins they will clinch the No. 5 playoff spot. This team wasn’t supposed to be a playoff team according to almost every analyst. The Hawks are within one game. They have three remaining games, two of which are against teams with three wins. They only have one more road game and that is next week against the 49ers.
The Seahawks will be a playoff team. They will defy all odds. This is a rebuilding year and it has been successful within 13 games. Bravo, Pete Carroll.
