Seattle Seahawks: Looking back at the season opener
Problems with the offense
What I am most critical about in this game was the offense. More specifically, it was the play calling. We heard all off-season, training camp, and pre-season that the Seahawks were going to run the ball more. When the time came, they only ran the ball 16 times while passing 33 times.

I couldn’t believe the first series, the Seahawks had the ball inside their own 20-yard line. They passed the ball the first two times without a completion then ran the ball on third down before punting. I would have thought they would run the ball on first down then throw the ball if necessary. They need to run the ball more or it will be a long season.
Rookie tight end Will Dissly the Seattle Seahawks fourth-round pick this year from the University of Washington had a fine day. He had his first NFL touchdown catch as part of a three reception, 105-yard day.
His TD catch was the Seahawks first of the season and put them up 7-0. Wide Receivers Brandon Marshall and Tyler Lockett caught Russell Wilson‘s other two touchdown passes. Both on sharp throws.
Another question coming into Sunday was whether the Seahawks offensive line would be improved over last season? At this point, the answer is no. They must show improvement each week or Wilson will be sacked more than ever.
Not only were Seahawks unable to run effectively, they couldn’t stop Denver’s pass rush. All-universe linebacker Von Miller was able to rush Wilson at will, especially in the fourth quarter. He knew exactly the direction that Wilson was headed when the Seahawks QB left the pocket.
We can debate how well Wilson played or didn’t play. That’s not the point. He will have to step up in the weeks ahead. The Seahawks need a complete game from their main offensive weapon. A few of those amazing fourth quarters, he’s famous for couldn’t hurt either.
Next week the Seahawks play the Chicago Bears at Soldier’s Field on Monday Night. It’s another up in the air game against a good defensive team. In the meantime let’s think positive.
