The Seattle Seahawks don’t need Dez Bryant to replace Baldwin

ARLINGTON, TX - JANUARY 04: Dez Bryant #88 of the Dallas Cowboys argues with side judge Allen Baynes #56 after a penatly was called against Anthony Hitchens #59 of the Dallas Cowboys when he collided with Brandon Pettigrew #87 of the Detroit Lions on a pass play during the second half of their NFC Wild Card Playoff game at AT&T Stadium on January 4, 2015 in Arlington, Texas. Doug Baldwin, the Seattle Seahawks top receiver is out for at least four weeks with a knee injury. The Seahawks should avoid signing free agent Dez Bryant as a replacement.

The Seattle Seahawks suffered a big loss to the Denver Broncos in week one but suffered an even bigger loss when Russell Wilson‘s clutch receiver Doug Baldwin went down with a second degree MCL tear. So what now? Will Tyler Lockett be shoved into the number one wide receiver position, or will Seattle seek out veteran help?

Former Dallas Cowboy Dez Bryant currently has his eyes open for a new job and Russell Wilson is without his favorite receiver for the next few weeks. Bryant, who was, now-retired, Tony Romo’s favorite receiver in Dallas, made a name for himself as a consistent but arrogant teammate.

His best years were when Romo was under-center. From 2010-2015 Bryant recorded 5,825 yards off of 412 receptions with an average 59.30% completion rate. On September 13th, 2015, Bryant fractured his foot against the New York Giants and only played nine games total that season.

More from Seattle Seahawks

From 2016 to the end of the 2017 season Bryant recorded 1,634 yards off of 119 receptions with an average 52.2% completion rate with Dak Prescott under center. That’s plenty of numbers to look at and digest. Before the 2015 season when Bryant fractured his foot, he was coming off of a 1,300-yard season, after the injury, he couldn’t top 900 yards.

So, is the big playmaker done making big plays? Probably not. He visited the Clevland Browns, but the two sides couldn’t reach an agreement. Does Bryant have a future in Seattle catching passes from  Russell Wilson? Again, probably not.

Unfortunately, Baldwin’s injury means the Seahawks are without their top receiver for at least a month. That said, I highly doubt that Head Coach Pete Carroll would sign a player with Bryant’s attitude. Why would he add Bryant’s volatile personality into his locker room after ditching outspoken and negative individuals like Richard Sherman and Michael Bennett?

Dez Bryant has a history of disagreeing with coaches When he does it is a big spectacle, to the point where Bryant has even got in the faces of those coaches. Carroll wanted to take the Seahawks reigns back and was tired of the disrespect he got from Sherman. It’s hard to believe he would bring back a similar attitude like the type he tried so hard to get rid of the last offseason.

Dez Bryant will find himself on a team at some point within the next two seasons, but I don’t believe it will be in the Emerald City. I will be looking forward to what Pete Carroll can put together without Doug Baldwin. I can only assume they will move on with Tyler Lockett and Brandon Marshall as their go-to receivers for the time being.

Next. Looking back at the Seahawks opener. dark

Some good news stemming from the loss of Seattle’s key playmaker is that Carroll revealed rookie pass blocker Will Dissly is also standout pass catcher as well. There are definitely fun and exciting things ahead for the Seattle Seahawks. Dez Bryant will have to see them from his couch.
