What do the Seahawks Need?

The Seahawks need offensive linemen, running backs, wide receivers, and defensive backs. They’re likely to make moves on all of these positions in the NFL Draft next month. There are plenty of quality college defensive players out there for the taking. You never know who the next star of Carroll’s Cornerback University will be. It was painfully obvious they needed more bodies to fill in for injuries to the secondary last season. A new crop of defensive backs getting schooled in how to box out receivers by Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor, and Earl Thomas could produce new contributors.

Carroll hasn’t had many problems with drafting defensive backs in Seattle so far. Drafting offensive linemen, however, is another story. Germain Ifedi, the offensive guard taken in the first round last year, flailed through his rookie season. Rees Odhiambo has yet to make an impact.

More from Emerald City Swagger

With more cap space than normal this offseason, the best option for the Hawks likely is or will be a free agent. Carroll, offensive line and assistant head coach Tom Cable*, and company know Okung from his first stint in Seattle. However, it’s unlikely he’ll take a hometown discount to return.

Rawls and Prosise have sides of injury histories to go with their main course of promise in their young careers. Adding another body (even an aging body) to the depth chart makes sense, and they can head off problems in their receiving corps at the pass this offseason.

The Seahawks have money to spend and fewer picks in the draft than we’re used to. They could make a significant move in free agency this year.
