5. Halftime of Divisional Round vs. Panthers

We’ll end the list of defining moments with a game against the same team that started this list—the NFC Champion Panthers. You know the story by now. The Seahawks couldn’t stop the Panthers and once again struggled to protect Wilson as the Panthers raced out to a 31-0 first half lead. For me the defining moment of this game came at halftime, when Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll, along with Wilson and others, must have said something about staying the course, because the Seahawks came out on fire in the second half.

The words spoken by various players and Pete Carroll at halftime were about not getting rattled, and they saved the Seahawks from walking away from the season on a blowout. The heart that this team showed in the second half of this game was extremely encouraging for 2016. Even with the loss, they showed the rest of the NFL that they will never accept defeat until the final whistle. That’s a quality that can’t be found in all NFL teams.

Down by 31 on the road, it’s easy to give up, even in the playoffs. Cam Newton wouldn’t dive on a fumble in the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl, after all. But the Seahawks refused to play dead after sinking into a seemingly impossible hole. Their second half spoke volumes about where this team can go from here with the leadership of Wilson and company at the helm.
