4. Wild Card Round vs. Vikings

Fans of Ace Ventura (including me) took to their social media accounts to hilariously reference the Jim Carrey movie after Minnesota Vikings kicker Blair Walsh kicked with the laces in and shanked a 27-yard field goal to allow the Seattle Seahawks to escape the frozen tundra of Minnesota with a 10-9 victory. The Seahawks didn’t score until the fourth quarter on a short pass from Russell Wilson to Doug Baldwin (set up by this gutsy fumble recovery by Wilson—take notes, Cam Newton), but due to a savage forced fumble by strong safety Kam Chancellor in the fourth quarter which set up a Steven Hauschka field goal, the Seahawks had the lead late.

Here’s another look at the game-clinching miss by Walsh. Watch the reaction of Richard Sherman and you’ll pretty much get an accurate portrait of what was happening in my mind as well. Don’t believe the announcers who called the Seahawks lucky. They fought hard against a quality Vikings team playing at home in the coldest NFL playoff game ever, holding one of the best running backs ever, Adrian Peterson, to 3.3 yards per carry and a fumble. The Seahawks beat the Vikings by playing tough defense and hanging on till the end. Sherman nearly blocking a Walsh field goal earlier in the game likely had something to do with the kicker’s miss at the end, too.
