The Seahawks selected running back C.J. Prosise, tight end Nick Vannett, and offensive guard/tackle Rees Odhiambo in the third round of this year’s NFL Draft. The picks allowed them to fill positions of need while still grabbing another option for Russell Wilson in the passing game.
The NFL Draft has been a roller coaster so far, with trades and surprise picks abound. The Seahawks managed to bolster their running back depth behind Thomas Rawls, add another athletic tight end, and build depth along their offensive line with their three third-round picks, the 27th in the round (90th overall) and the 35th pick in the round (97th overall). Their second pick this round was a compensatory pick.
The Seahawks have made the most of their third round selections in the NFL Draft in the past with general manager John Schneider and head coach Pete Carroll, taking John Moffitt (2011) Russell Wilson (2012), Jordan Hill (2013), and Tyler Lockett (2015). The Seahawks’ brain trust knows what it’s doing, and there’s no doubt that Prosise was selected because of a combination of skills, attitude, and positional need as determined by Carroll and Schneider. It’s never easy to project how effective a draft pick will be playing on Sundays, but Prosise figures to fit into the team well.
