Jordan Morris finally scores his first goal for the Seattle Sounders FC, in the process helping them clinch a hard-earned win over the Philadelphia Union.

The Seattle Sounders seem to finally be returning to the consistency fans are used to. Saturday’s 2-1 win over the Philadelphia Union means they’ve now picked up points in their last three games.

In the process, the Sounders are slowly but surely climbing back into the playoff picture. Of course, it’s still early in the season, but things would be looking significantly dire if it wasn’t for recent results.

The game against the Union was a close, hard-fought affair, with the Rave Green attack again struggling to put anything together with real consistency. However, when it mattered most, a certain somebody finally showed the CenturyLink Field crowd what they’ve been waiting for:

Jordan Morris‘ celebration told it all – a combination of immense ecstasy and relief. Regardless, the way he controlled the ball and calmly slotted it home was a special moment for the 21-year old.

Morris’ technique on the goal, was only matched by the fantastic pinpoint pass from Andreas Ivanschitz. The midfielder also assisted on Chad Marshall‘s towering header – his second goal in successive weeks, to make him the team’s leading scorer.

However, Morris understandably took most of the adulation and spoke to the media about his goal after the game: “I’m feeling good. It was a great ball from Andreas and I was happy to put it away.”

The Seattle native downplayed his excellent finish, with a playful dig at himself: “I’m pigeon-toed so it’s a little bit more natural for me to kind of stab at the ball like that sometimes. I get some slack for it, but it’s more natural for me.”

Despite the forward line still looking for more cohesion, Morris is encouraged by the progress: “We started (the season) with a new formation and different personnel, but I think it’s definitely gelling now. Each game it’s gotten better and better, and it’s exciting.”

Exciting is probably the right word for Sounders fans as well, who are hoping Morris’ goal opens the floodgates for him. Next up is a trip to Colorado, to take on the Rapids.
