The Huskies dropped a sloppy contest to the Ducks in Eugene 86-73. Their loss worsened their Pac-12 record to 8-9.

The Huskies were hindered by foul trouble and sloppy play in their loss to Oregon in Eugene last night 86-73. The Ducks’ Elgin Cook scored 26 points and secured seven rebounds. Dillon Brooks chipped in 19 points for the Ducks, who finished their regular season 18-0 at home. They are the presumptive number one seed for the Pac-12 Tournament.

More from Washington Huskies

Andrew Andrews kept his Pac-12 scoring title alive (he’s averaging 20.3 points per game) by scoring 21 points despite only shooting 1-6 from beyond the arc. He became the fifth player in Huskies history to score 1000 points in his career, joining Quincy Pondexter, Chris Welp, Todd MacCulloch, and Eldridge Recaster. Dejounte Murray added 20 points, three rebounds, and two assists. Marquese Chriss spent long periods on the bench because of early foul trouble and only scored six points. Another record watch: the Huskies, leading the country in blocked shots, only swatted one Duck shot last night and they need 12 against Washington State on Wednesday to break the Pac-12 record for blocks set by Arizona State in 2013.

The loss likely drops the Huskies (16-13, 8-9) out of contention for an at-large bid to the National Tournament. However, it’s still possible to get to NCAA Tournament by beating the Cougars on Wednesday on Senior Night and posting impressive wins in the Pac-12 tournament. That seems like a tall order for the Dawgs considering how badly they’ve played recently, but it’s possible. Lorenzo Romar says that his team will “treat the Washington State game like it’s a championship game,” but it might be too little too late. Even if the Huskies go far in the Pac-12 Tournament, they’ll need some help from other bubble teams before Selection Sunday. Still, hope springs eternal.

The Huskies face the awful Washington State Cougars, who have won exactly one Pac-12 game all year, at Hec Ed on Wednesday and head off to Las Vegas for the Pac-12 Tournament a week later, on March 9th.
