Huskies coach Lorenzo Romar was formally reprimanded by the Pac-12 after criticizing the referees after the Huskies’ latest loss.

Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott formally reprimanded Huskies coach Lorenzo Romar after he publicly criticized the referees that appeared to allow the Oregon State Beavers a few extra seconds in the Huskies loss in Corvallis on Wednesday night. Romar filed a complaint with the Pac-12 after the officials didn’t start the clock on time when the Beavers inbounded the ball to Stephen Thompson Jr., who dribbled the length of the court and sank the game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer. Romar also questioned whether Thompson traveled just before he shot as well.

Romar’s complaint with the league went nowhere. The Pac-12 has no formal complaint system in place and it can’t challenge what the league calls a “judgement call,” referring to the feet-shuffling by Thompson before he launched the game-winner, which, by the way, pretty much sank the Huskies chances for securing an at-large bid to the NCAA National Tournament.

Lorenzo Romar said, in an interview with the Tacoma News Tribune:

"“The whole point is that you’re talking about a potential NCAA tournament berth. You’re talking about kids busting their tail, playing their tails off, giving it everything they have, like both teams did.“But when something like that happens . . . it’s not even about discussing if the clock started late, or if there was a travel. It’s not even about that. That’s a foregone conclusion. I’m sure those involved saw that, OK, yeah, there was a travel. OK, yeah, the clock . . . that was just pretty cut and dry.”"
