Washington State Football: Update on former Cougars in the NFL 12/2018

The first Thursday of the month, ECS will update how Washington state football alumni are doing during the season. Currently, there are 12 former Cougars in the NFL.

Cougars in the AFC currently getting playing time

River Cracraft, wide receiver, Denver Broncos

He started the season on the practice squad, however, was activated by the Denver Broncos on November 2. He has played in the last four games but hasn’t received a catch yet. He has returned puts in three of the four games including the last one against the Cincinnati Bengals where he returned three punts for six yards.

Chris Ivory, running back, Buffalo Bills

He has played primarily in a backup role. The most recent game last week in a loss to the Miami Dolphins he rushed six times for four yards including a fumble that the Bills did recover. He has 298 yards rushed on the season.

Frankie Luvu, outside linebacker, New York Jets

Hasn’t started a game as a rookie, however, has impressed the New York Jets coaching staff and recently playing 67 percent of the Jets’ snaps. Last Sunday, December 2 he had a sack along with two tackles in the Jet’s loss to the Tennessee Titans 26-22.

On the suspension list, injured reserve, and practice squad

Daniel Ekuale, defensive lineman, Cleveland Browns

Ekuale signed as an undrafted free agent this year. He was on the Cleveland Browns practice squad, however, on December 5 it was announced he was suspended for four games according to the NFL performance-enhancing substance rules.

Luke Falk, QB, Miami Dolphins

He has a fractured left wrist and is on injured reserved out for the rest of the season. Look to update on Faulk during the offseason going into next season.

Vince Mayle, tight end, Los Angeles Chargers

Has been on the practice squad all season.

Destiny Vaeao, defensive tackle, New York Jets

He was released by the Philadelphia Eagles after an injury settlement and signed to the Jets practice squad on November 19. He could be a free agent after the season.

Cougars in the NFC currently getting playing time

Joe Dahl, offensive guard, Detroit Lions

Dahl returned to action after missing playing time week seven through nine, the reason is unknown, however, has played a reserve role the last four weeks.

Shalom Luani, strong safety Seattle Seahawks

He primarily has played special teams for the Seahawks this season. He recently made a tackle in the Seahawks win over the Carolina Panthers. He missed the game against the San Francisco 49ers last week in Seattle because of injured quadriceps.

Deone Bucannon, linebacker Arizona Cardinals

Has started four games on the season for the Arizona Cardinals, however, has missed the last two games because of an injured chest. It is unknown whether he will play this coming Sunday against the Detroit Lions. Has had 21 tackles on the season.

Inactive or on the injured reserve

Cole Madison, guard Green Bay Packers

Continues to be inactive for personal reasons and not expected to play at all this season will update when more news is available.

Hercules Mata’afa, defensive end Minnesota Vikings

He is out for the season will update on his return.
