Growing Sense of Doom

Going into July everything looked rosy though the A’s almost had as good of a June as the Mariners did. That’s when it all changed. While the A’s had another great month, Seattle did not. Oakland had a record of 17-8 in July but the Mariners went a disappointing10-13.

At that point, they each had the same amount of wins with 63. The Mariners were still ahead slightly because they had two fewer losses than their Bay Area rivals. I could accept this situation, teams have good months and bad months. That’s baseball, but my unease with the season began to grow.

In August, the Seattle Mariners had their second straight losing month posting a record of 12-16. Meanwhile, the Athletics had their third straight great month winning 67 percent of their games, ending the month with an 18-9 record. Going into September the M’s were five-and-a-half games behind Oakland (81-55) with a record of 75-60.

Through the first two weeks of this month, Seattle has again lost more than they have won. The A’s, on the other hand, are still winning at a high level. Their respective records in September are 4-6 and 8-2. Both teams continue going in opposite directions. This season is going downhill fast, and I’m ready for this whole thing to end.
