Sounders forward Jordan Morris, an American hero
By Ben Renner
Sounders forward Jordan Morris scored two goals, including the deciding strike, to help the US Men’s National Team to a Gold Cup victory over underdog Martinique.
Sounders local star Jordan Morris did his best to match Robinson Cano representing Seattle sports on a large scale with two goals to lift the US Man’s National Team to victory over upstart Martinique.
After dropping into a 2-0 hole, Martinique, playing on the road at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, tied the home team in a matter of twelve minutes. US goalkeeper Brad Guzan swung and missed on a Kevin Parsemain attack in the 66th minute. He looked gunshy after that gaffe and did himself no favors on the second Parsemain goal in the 76th minute.
Luckily, the Sounders had a representative in the USMT lineup for head coach Bruce Arena.

Jordan Morris, who followed Omar Gonzalez’ 54th minute goal with one of his own in the 64th minute, tapped home his second goal of the evening shortly after the Martinique equalizer.
Morris bailed out an American side that looked listless in the first half, unable to break through with a goal despite controlling the ball 70% of the time. But the Sounders star looked at home in front of the Tampa crowd, calmly sinking two crosses to give the USMT three points in the Gold Cup standings.
Arena’s team can clinch Group B with a win over Nicaragua on Saturday night at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland and a Panama loss or tie against Martinique. The US and Panama have four points in the standings at the moment.
