Pick 58: Seahawks select Sidney Jones, CB Washington

The University of Washington corner was slated to be a top 15 pick before he suffered an Achilles injury at the UW Pro Day. Jones has been constant in his belief that he will be ready by September.

While this might be a bit optimistic, it now sounds like Jones could be ready to play by November. The Seahawks need corners, and finding a top 15 talent in the late second would be a gem.

When healthy, Jones was a premier pass defender. A three-year starter, he has nine career interceptions, and got a hand on 21 percent of balls thrown his way.

Although lean in stature, Jones has a dynamic punch at the line of scrimmage, throwing receivers off their routes often. He high points the ball well, and is a technician in his craft. Jones receives high praise from all his coaches for his motor and work ethic.

Jones does not possess the length Seattle typically covets. He is a lean figure, and can be pushed around by bigger receivers. However; Jones is ultra-competitive and constantly working to improve his craft.
