Sounders Bury Galaxy With Three First-Half Goals
By Ben Renner
The Sounders scored three goals in the first half of their road match with the LA Galaxy and cruised to an easy 3-0 win over their Western Conference nemesis.
The Sounders sounded a new era of MLS play by putting down their Western Conference rivals the LA Galaxy in short order earlier today. With the win, Seattle now has two romps in a row in Los Angeles against the Galaxy, something that would have been unheard of a few years ago.
The Sounders got on the board early by finding weaknesses in the rebuilding Galaxy defense. Seattle forward Clint Dempsey found himself open in front of LA goalkeeper Brian Rowe and headed home a perfect Nicolas Lodeiro cross in the 29th minute.
Legendary English defenseman Ashley Cole deflected a cross by Joevin Jones into his own net, putting the Galaxy down 2-0 six minutes later.

By the time forward Jordan Morris pounced on a pass from Dempsey to bury a shot on a counterattack just before halftime, it was over. The Sounders carried a 3-0 lead into the break and completed the shutout in the second half.
The Galaxy have lost several key players along with their longtime head coach, Bruce Arena. Steven Gerrard, Robbie Keane, and American soccer hero Landon Donovan have all departed from the Galaxy roster. With that kind of turnover, especially involving the legends that populated LA’s roster all those years, a rebuilding project was expected under new coach Curt Onalfo. A 3-0 loss at home to a foe Galaxy fans I’m sure remember putting down on a regular basis not that long ago, could be a low that grows all too familiar this season.

Fortunately, rebuilding is a problem in LA, not in Seattle, where the defending champs return next weekend to face the New England Revolution at CenturyLink.
