Ranking the Eight Seattle Seahawks Head Coaches
By Ben Renner
1. Pete Carroll
It should be no surprise by now that current Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll is this writer’s best coach in Seahawks history. Beyond the Seahawks’ impressive win over the Broncos in Super Bowl 48, he has established not only a winning atmosphere in Seattle, but relentless championship expectations. Carroll was the longtime coach of the USC Trojans, winning a National Championship and losing another National Championship game in a classic against Vince Young and the Texas Longhorns.

Leaving behind allegations of NCAA rules violations for his supposed pampering of star running back Reggie Bush, Carroll became the Seattle Seahawks coach in 2010 after Jim Mora got himself canned for being terrible. His first season in Seattle he went 7-9, won the division anyway, and famously upset the New Orleans Saints in Seattle in the Wild Card round (the Beastquake Game). After finishing 7-9 the following year, Carroll started an impressive run beginning in 2012, culminating in two Super Bowl appearances in the past three seasons.
Carroll built the Legion of Boom out of mostly late-round draftees and helped general manager John Schneider find third round steal Russell Wilson. Carroll’s competitive yet fun atmosphere is honestly a breath of fresh air in a league full of stuffy coaches who tolerate no fun on the practice field. The scary part for the rest of the league is that Carroll, already with a Super Bowl ring, two Conference Championships, and three Division titles, could just be getting warmed up. The Seahawks appear in good position to once again contend for another Super Bowl title in 2017.
