In the wake of the firing of Los Angeles Rams coach Jeff Fisher and reports that the organization is interested in replacing him with a marquee name, Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll commented Tuesday on his rumored link to the vacancy.

More from Emerald City Swagger

Relax 12’s, citizens of Seattle, and Seahawks fans everywhere.  You can now breathe a sigh of relief as it appears that Pete Carroll will not allow himself to be lured to the vibrant, warm city of Los Angeles to become the next head coach of the Rams.

While just mere speculation at this point, it was thought that perhaps the California-born Carroll, who was revered during his tenure with LA’s most celebrated university, USC, would perhaps be interested in returning to the city to bring success to its professional franchise just as he did with its amateur one.

In Seattle, Carroll would be leaving behind a dynamic young franchise quarterback along with a perennially good defense. Those aren’t easy to come by in the NFL and it seems that the 65-year-old coach agrees.

According to Rams beat writer Joe Curley of the Ventura County Star, Carroll was subtle but direct about his name being floated around as Fisher’s potential replacement.

While it’s not hard to believe that the current Seahawks coach was being sincere here, let’s remember that the NFL season is currently in full swing. This isn’t college football where coaches accept positions with other schools and then continue to coach their old team through the end of the season.

Strengthening Carroll’s comments, however, is the contract extension that he signed last offseason to remain Seattle’s coach through the 2019 season.

Perhaps, this conversation ramps up once the season is over when Carroll has time to think about things besides helping the Seahawks win their second-ever Super Bowl. Until then, this is nothing more than just gossip surrounding a city and its many celebratory citizens that live for gossip.
