The Sounders find themselves in last place in the Western Conference and need a win at home against FC Dallas tomorrow night.

More from Seattle Sounders

The Sounders are 5-10-2 on the season, in last place in the MLS Western Conference. At this point in the season, there are still plenty of games left, but there are also still plenty of teams the Sounders will have to climb over to get to the playoffs.

One of those teams is FC Dallas, which currently stands in first place in the Western Conference at 11-5-4 with 37 points on the season. The Sounders have suffered two frustrating and crushing losses at the hands of FC Dallas in their last two meetings, losing 2-0 on May 14 in Frisco, Texas in which a questionable penalty kick goal put the Sounders down, something that has become all too familiar to the Rave Green this year. They also lost to FC Dallas in last year’s Western Conference semifinals.

Despite losing several games this year on questionable penalty kicks, the Sounders have astoundingly been awarded no penalty kicks. That’s right. None. Maybe a few flops in the box tomorrow night against FC Dallas is warranted after the Sounders took 22 shots on goal against the LA Galaxy last weekend–and made none of them in a 1-0 loss. At this point, I’m not the only Sounders fan who wants goals in any form possible.

But no amount of whining about bad calls and penalty kicks will dig the Sounders out of their 10th-place hole in the Western Conference. The pressure will be on tomorrow, with coach Sigi Schmid calling for “reinforcements,” especially in the front line, goal scorers Clint Dempsey and Jordan Morris will have to find the back of the net, or at least help their teammates do so, or the season may be lost.
