The Sounders lost another 1-0 game, this time at home against the Los Angeles Galaxy to drop them into the Western Conference cellar.

More from Seattle Sounders

The Sounders dropped into tenth place in the Western Conference in the MLS yesterday after dropping yet another 1-0 match. After a 3-0 defeat of the EPL’s West Ham United last week in a friendly, one of the most unwatchable teams in the MLS suddenly had a glimmer of hope. The Sounders also defeated Real Salt Lake in the US Open Cup in a shoot-out to advance to the quaterfinals.

Forward Jordan Morris couldn’t stop scoring goals in recent games, and with the Sounders getting their star forward Clint Dempsey back for yesterday’s match, things appeared to be looking up.

The Sounders have goal-scorers, after all, right? And the defense has been solid all season. And yet, another 1-0 defeat. And this:

Frustration, indeed.

Sounders coach Sigi Schmid stuck to his normal script after almost all of the games this season: “All that you can ask for your team is to create chances and to fight and battle and to work hard and smart for each other,” he said after the game.

The numbers support Schmid’s assessment. In addition to their 22 shots on goal yesterday, they also held the ball for 61.6 percent of the game. 16 of their shots on goal came from inside the Galaxy’s penalty box. And still Robbie Keane’s early goal in the 15th minute stood up for Los Angeles.

At 5-10-2, the Sounders find themselves against the ropes. The competition doesn’t get any easier in July. They will face FC Dallas on Wednesday at home and head down I-5 to Portland to play the Timbers in Providence Park on July 17th.
