The Sounders defeated DC United 2-0 earlier this week, a badly needed win on the road for a team that had yet to win away from CenturyLink Field all season. The Sounders don’t play another match until they see the New York Red Bulls on June 19th. By then, they may have star forward Clint Dempsey back from his tour of duty with the US Men’s National Team playing in the Copa America, depending on how it goes for the US team.
Sounders GM Garth Lagerway discussed how the team would go about signing a Designated Player during the upcoming summer window. The Sounders could badly use some reinforcements. Jordan Morris’ nasty goal against DC United was nominated for the MLS Goal of the Week. And here’s how Dempsey and the rest of the USMNT stack up against the stiff competition in the Copa America.
Ethan Swenson at Sounder at Heart proclaimed the win at DC United the dawn of a new age for the Sounders this season. Sounders forward and Paraguayan national team member Nelson Valdez opened up to the Seattle Times ahead of his Copa America action.
The Sounders and their fans will be watching the Copa America intently when it kicks off tomorrow. Keep an eye on Dempsey and Valdez especially, obviously, and root as hard as you can for the US Men’s team. 2015 was not their finest year and they need a strong showing in this tournament to regain some of their pride and international respect.

Yes, it’s important, even moreso than Dempsey returning to the Sounders sooner. Plus, we already won one match without him on the road…
