The Sounders head into their annual East Coast road trip missing a big piece of their offense. How will they limp onward without Clint Dempsey?

The Sounders dropped yet another frustrating game last weekend, 1-0 against the first-place Colorado Rapids despite one of the best performances of the season by forward Clint Dempsey. Dempsey was chosen by United States Men’s Team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann to lead the team into the Copa America competition, which begins next month.

More from Seattle Sounders

While we can all celebrate Dempsey’s addition to the national team, the Sounders will miss his leadership and his offensive skills during their East Coast swing. Sounders head coach Sigi Schmid will also be without promising midfielder Oalex Anderson as well, who suffered a hamstring strain in last week’s match against Colorado.

How Schmid will adjust his lineup without both Anderson and Dempsey is anyone’s guess at this point. However, we can expect to see much more of Herculez Gomez, Aaron Kovar, and Cristian Roldan in the next two matches. Another possibility is Schmid inserting Dylan Remick into the lineup in order to push Joevin Jones to the wing.

The Sounders will be short-handed on their East Coast trip this season, not a good place to be, considering they’re in ninth place in the Western Conference at 4-6-1. But there is good news, at least for Schmid and company. Star forward Jordan Morris was left off the national team by Jurgen Klinsmann, news that he took graciously. The Sounders will also have defender Chad Marshall back, who will return from his injury against New England on Saturday.

Defender Brad Evans was also left off of the USMNT, which means the Sounders will have their stalwart on the pitch against the Revolution as well.
