The Seattle Sounders beat the Columbus Crew 1-0 on a Jordan Morris Goal in the 88th Minute at CenturyLink Field Yesterday.

More from Seattle Sounders

By now you’ve heard of Jordan Morris’ 88th minute goal against the Columbus Crew to give the Sounders the 1-0 victory at CenturyLink. Morris once again showed why came to the Sounders with so much fanfare before the season. The Seattle native, who has only been able to legally drink since last October, has now scored three goals in three matches. He hammered home a rebound after Seattle substitute forward Oalex Anderson’s attempt was blocked at point-blank range by the Columbus Crew’s Steve Clark.

Morris’ resurgence in the past few games has lifted the Sounders, who sit in eighth place in the Western Conference after the win against the ninth-place Eastern Conference Crew. The Sounders have the talent to contend in the Western Conference this season. Even after the departure of Obafemi Martins, coach Sigi Schmid still has depth, a solid defense, and goal-scorers. That’s all you need in this league. Clint Dempsey, who has dealt with injury issues for much of this young season, and Morris on the attack could be a frightening attack as the season moves on. Time will tell if these two goal scorers can feed off of each other on the attacking third.

The Sounders will take on the 4th-place San Jose Earthquakes on the road next week. The Earthquakes just recorded a road point on a dramatic late-game goal of their own against the Philadelphia Union. The Sounders hope to have Dempsey back to his former lethal self. He returned to the lineup yesterday against the Crew but hasn’t scored since his winner against the Montreal Impact at home on April 2nd.

Can the Sounders get their offense in gear for San Jose? A week of practice at full strength will certainly help.
