Day 2- Round 3- Pick# 90- CJ Prosise, RB, Notre Dame

Interesting. There were plenty of RB’s on the NFL Draft board and this was the first of three picks within 8 slots of each other. They could have easily gotten a guy with the last of those picks but they clearly favored the golden domer.

Prosise is a high risk, high reward player. He only converted to RB from WR in 2015 after injuries opened up an opportunity to get more plying time. He took to it well, piling up lots of yards, lots of touchdowns and plenty of highlight reel runs. So the natural athletic talent is there. He has good size at 6’, 220 lbs. He’s fast, timing under 4.5 and he has good pass catching ability as expected for a former wide receiver.

The flip side is he is not adept at pass blocking, he runs high and presents a nice full target to defenders, and- most concerning- had five fumbles in 2015. This is to be expected for a player new to the position but that must be worked on and cleaned up real fast if he wants to actually see the field on offense. As Pete Carroll states- “It’s all about the ball.” Fumbles will not be tolerated.

I get an Ahman Green vibe from Prosise’s game, from the natural running ability all the way to the fumble issue. Let’s hope this player isn’t traded away, only to become a featured back in the League elsewhere.

Early Grade: B-

Color me intrigued by the natural ability and team-first nature of the player. A nice gamble.
