Rain Forces Cancellation Of Mariners’ Only Intrasquad Game
Maybe you weren’t looking forward to the Seattle Mariners’ first (and only) intrasquad game of the season. That’s probably good and healthy: it’s a glorified practice, even more trivial than the typical Cactus League contest. There was only going to be one intrasquad game this year, and it was supposed to happen today. But then it rained, and now there isn’t going to be an intrasquad game. Rats.

This is really no big deal. The pitchers who were going to get there work in are still going to get their work in, and all this means is that practice took place inside and in a slightly different format. But still, we were going to get lineups, and pitching changes, and a guaranteed Mariners victory. Now it’s just more boring practice.
Jordan Pries vs. James Paxton was supposed to be the heated matchup of the day. Instead those guys threw their bullpens and we don’t even have a box score to remind us of what’s to come next month. Because real, counts-in-the-standings baseball is now a month away. So soon! March just started yesterday, but it’s already almost April.
Maybe I’m the only person who was excited for this pseudo-game. It was going to get a big, in-depth preview and a way-too-serious recap. Guess that’ll just have to wait until Wednesday, when the Mariners take on the new-look San Diego Padres in a Catcus League game that is actually a charity game and thus doesn’t even count in the fake standings. So weird. We’ll cover it in more depth than anyone asked for, of course.
Today there was supposed to be a Seattle Mariners game. The M’s were going to take on the M’s, and they were highly likely to emerge victorious. But the price of sunshine in Seattle is rain in Peoria, apparently, and so there was no game. It’d be pretty neat if the season would just hurry up and start already.
