Spring Training Is Underway In Peoria
Spring training, relative to the regular season, is not very fun. There are games, but they aren’t real games, and while they are counted in standings, they aren’t counted in the standings. Maybe you get a kick out of the first one, just because it’s been so long since there were actual baseball games to follow in any capacity. But mostly, spring training is a drag.

But today spring training is anything but a drag. Today we bask in spring training. It’s fresh right now, and absolutely brand new. Pitchers and catchers just reported yesterday! We’ll get bored of this, because we always do, but as far as today is concerned, it’s all too good to be true.
Are you all caught up on what’s been going on in Peoria? If not, Greg Johns’ MLB.com-sanctioned blog is what you need to stay tuned to. Also, here’s a quick rundown: pitchers are there, catchers are there, lots of position players are there, coaches are there, team employees are there, media folk are there, it’s warm, it’s sunny, and Jesus Montero looks fantastic, somehow.
We’re still a ways away from practice games, though workouts are underway. Workouts! And we’re excited about this! Baseball players are stretching and throwing bullpens and they’re wearing Mariners gear. Because they’re the Mariners. Which means the Mariners are that much closer to being back.
Don’t fight this feeling. This is awesome. This has been awesome in the past, even when we were preparing to drag our feet through another inevitable 90-loss season. But now baseball is back, and baseball might be ready to reward us. The Mariners project well. They pass the eye test. The Mariners should be good. The Mariners might be good!
There’s baseball in Peoria. Brad Miller hasn’t cut his hair in a long time. This could be our year. And now it’s underway.
