Washington Huskies: Nigel Williams-Goss Selected to Capitol One Academic All-District First Team
Standing 11th in the Pac-12, the Washington Huskies basketball team isn’t exactly enjoying the best of seasons. However, they received some good news this week, when Nigel Williams-Goss was named to the 2015 Capitol One Academic All-District 8 first team.

The announcement was made by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). As gohuskies.com reported, Williams-Goss has a 3.74 cumulative GPA and is also double-majoring in Communications and Psychology
As most Huskies fans can attest to, the point guard has enjoyed an impressive season on the court. Williams-Goss currently leads the team with 15.4 points per game, while also pacing the Pac-12 with 6.1 assists.
The sophomore has started all 22 games for Washington this season, helping lead them to an overall record of 14-8. (Unfortunately, the Huskies are just 3-7 in Pac-12 play.) Most impressive of all, Williams-Goss is one of just two players in the nation to average 15+ points, 6 assists and 4.8 rebounds.

The Happy Valley, Oregon native’s impressive play is just a follow-on from last season, when he was named to the 2014 All-Pac-12 Freshman Team. Williams-Goss led all conference freshmen in scoring (13.3), assists (4.4) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.6).
In many respects, the success of Williams-Goss comes as little surprise. Back in 2013, his scouting report advised that he had great skill and size (6-3 and 190 lbs) for the point guard position, together with a tremendous basketball IQ.
Due to his selection, Williams-Goss now qualifies for the the Capitol One Academic All-America Team awards. The ballot takes place later on this month, with All-America honorees being selected for the first, second and third teams.
In order to be eligible for consideration, a player must be a starter or key reserve. On top of this, they must maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at their current institution and be nominated by a sports information director.
