Seahawks Injury News: Max Unger And Byron Maxwell Will Play Vs. Packers
By Paul Novak
Just one game stands in the way of the Seattle Seahawks making their second straight Super Bowl appearance. A rematch of the first regular season game of the 2014 season with the Green Bay Packers.
It appears that the Seahawks will have some key players back in the starting lineup for their matchup against All-Pro quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Center Max Unger and cornerback Byron Maxwell both played in the ‘Hawks victory over the Carolina Panthers last Saturday. Neither finished the game.
Unger left after suffering an ankle injury in the fourth quarter, something that has kept the Pro Bowl lineman out of multiple games already this season. Pete Carroll said that Unger should be “fine” for Sunday and that he will practice on Wednesday.
Byron Maxwel is in “great shape,” according to Carroll, and will play on Sunday for sure. Maxwell sat out most of last week’s game with a shortness of breath. That’s great news for the Seahawks’ secondary since his replacement, Tharold Simon, didn’t look particularly sharp against Cam Newton. I’d hate to see what Rodgers would do, even with a partially torn calf.
In other news, the Seahawks will use a trio of receivers to fill in for rookie Paul Richardson who is out for the remainder of the playoffs after suffering an ACL injury. Ricardo Lockette, Kevin Norwood and Chris Matthews could all see playing time in the rotation.
Many have taken to twitter expecting to see some trickery now that third string QB B.J. Daniels was added to the 53-man roster. I wouldn’t expect much of that. Instead, Daniels will be used on special teams as well as an emergency quarterback, running back and wide receiver. He could also be used in the return game after having practiced as a returner for much of the season.
