Seahawks vs. 49ers Position-By-Position Preview: Linebackers

As we found out the last few weeks, a healthy Bobby Wagner and Kam Chancellor makes all the difference for Seattle’s defense. Having them back immediately made this defense look more like last year’s historically great group. I also love the way Bruce Irvin is developing into a complete three-down player. He is finally able to hold off blockers in the run game effectively. His coverage skills also have been solid.

Michael Wilhoite and Chris Borland have been more than adequate in the middle of the ‘9ers 3-4 linebackers. But they aren’t going to make the plays consistently that Wagner, Irvin and KJ Wright make. And with NaVorro Bowman still recovering from his knee injury suffered in last year’s NFC Championship game, the Seahawks have the edge on this one.

Advantage: Seahawks
