The rough years

What is the mark of a true fan? Sticking with the team through thin, and thinner. It meant rooting for the Mariners in 1978 when they won a pitiful 56 games.

It was easy to root for them in 2001 when they won 116, but were you there when they won 63 in 2004? How about when they won 61 games in 2008 and 2010?

Look, you don’t have to like it when your team loses. We’re not talking about the Chicago Cubs here. However, if you are going to call yourself a fan, you have to proudly wear your hat or jersey even when your franchise is buried deep in the cellar.

Everyone is rocking the Seattle Seahawks gear these days, and they are happily wearing their jerseys, t-shirts and hats all over the country. Were those same fans wearing their Kelly Stouffer or Stan Gelbaugh jerseys in 1992 when the ‘Hawks went 2-14?

Maybe. Maybe not.
