Seahawks Safety Kam Chancellor Introduced Himself to the World

Seattle Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor stepped onto the NFL stage last night and introduced himself to the entire world in a big way in Seattle’s 31-17 playoff victory over the Carolina Panthers.

All of us in Seattle have know that Chancellor and Earl Thomas form the NFL’s best safety tandem. NFL fans have been raving about Thomas since his rookie season. Despite an amazing performance in last year’s Super Bowl, Kam hasn’t had the same level of praise thrown his way. However, yesterday’s divisional playoff game quickly became his personal stage.

After the game, Richard Sherman had some very interesting things to say about Chancellor.

Amongst the 10 tackles and various other plays where he made an impact, three plays stood above the rest.

As the Carolina Panthers lined up to kick a field goal, Chancellor times the snap count perfectly and hurdled over the Panthers’ offensive line to get in nearly perfect position to block the field goal.

Somehow Chancellor put himself in a position where the kick went just to the left and through the uprights. Fortunately a penalty flag was thrown on the Panthers and the kick had to be attempted a second time.

Amazingly, Chancellor succeeded a second time with the hurdle and this time made it all the way to the kicker, drawing a flag on the play for roughing the kicker after the kick was shanked and went wide left.

But was it the right call? Evidence suggests that Chancellor did in fact get his hands on the ball.

Regardless, the field goal attempt was attempted a third time, with Chancellor not attempting a three-peat and the Panthers got the three hardest points in NFL history.

And then there was the cherry on the sunday. The 90-yard INT he returned for a TD that sealed the win for the Seahawks.

It’s safe to say that Kam Chancellor showed why he was voted to the AP All-Pro team, albeit on the second team. Maybe next year the voters will remember his performance last night and partner him with Earl Thomas on the first team.
