Do the tighten up

It wasn’t all peaches and cream for WSU. Extra point conversions have been an adventure for Washington State this season. The Boogeyman showed up once again in the second quarter. The Cougars botched another extra point on a bad snap. Fans would have thought these mistakes would have been corrected by now, but apparently not.

Washington is going to play like their season depends on it this Friday, because it does. It would be a pity to lose such an important game because the Cougars couldn’t execute an extra point. They might be in a different position if they could have done a better job with the kicking game at USC. Hopefully, this aspect of the game will be a focal point in practice during the week.

Getting the Breaks

Washington State was very fortunate Saturday night. They were able to take advantage of Arizona’s miscues. Maybe that’s an understatement. More accurately Wazzu converted Wildcats mistakes into points. With time running down in the second quarter and Arizona driving, Gary Brightwell fumbled before going in for a score.

The Cougs recovered the ball in the end zone for a touchback. Two plays later Minshew found Tay Martin on a deep route down the left sideline for a 50-yard touchdown pass. A textbook definition of making the opposition pay for their mistakes.

It would be remiss to gloss over the kickoff TD. Zona mishandled a short kick when the ball bounced pas their return man. WSU hustled downfield to recover a live ball in the end zone. Take a look at the video, it was Dez Patmon who got behind the return man and started the play moving in Washington State’s favor. Kainoa Wilson recovered it for a touchdown and a four score lead.
