You’ve heard the phrase “addition by subtraction.” Replacing the spots on the roster vacated by the graduations of forward Johnathan Williams, and guard Silas Melson plus the transfer of guard Jesse Wade to Brigham Young University, are two true Freshmen, Filip Petrusev and Greg Foster, Jr.; along with Red-shirt Freshman, Joel Ayayi.

Petrusev is a six-foot, eleven-inch, center/forward from Serbia. Foster, at 6’5″, is projected to be the backup point guard. Starting point guard, senior Josh Perkins, who is expected to be fully recovered from shoulder surgery in April, may need some time to get back into game shape. Ayayi, another international recruit, is a six-foot, five-inch,180 pound, guard from Bordeaux, France.

Making his Zags debut this season will be redshirt junior transfer from San Jose State, Brandon Clarke. In 2016-17 the forward averaged 17.3 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game for the Spartans.

A big question in the backcourt is the status of transfer guard Geno Crandall from the North Dakota State Fighting Hawks. A report on Slipperstillfits.com stated that Crandall recently explained that he stills intends on enrolling at Gonzaga. He hopes to be in Bulldogs uniform at some point this season. There were some NCAA transfer requirements that the back-court player needed to meet before he could enroll at the West Coast Conference school.
