Hitting

Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto has some serious decisions to make this winter. Seattle has some solid players they can build around in Jean Segura, Mitch Haniger and Edwin Diaz. They also have, Robinson Cano and Kyle Seager because the M’s can’t get rid of their big contracts.

For 2019, the lineup seems to be locked at these positions.

3B- Kyle Seager

OF- Mitch Haniger

We don’t know the direction Dipoto and Servais want to go with players like Dee Gordon, Robinson Cano, and Ryon Healy. Gordon is a sure-fire better defensive second baseman over Cano but Robinson has a better bat. Do they platoon Healy and Cano at first base like the Mariners did for the last 30 games or so of 2018? Is Gordon good enough to play center field every day going forward, which was the plan for 2018 all along?

Then there is Denard Span and Nelson Cruz. Cruz is a free agent this winter and said he wants to return to Seattle. His lack of ability to play in the field takes away roster flexibility. Denard Span who still has shown the ability to play a good left field could also step in and be the new DH while letting Cruz sign somewhere else.
