Every week the Seattle Seahawks play, Emerald City Swagger will have a dud and stud of the game. It’s a way to honor those who have played well and also call out the players who didn’t.

Sunday afternoon the Seattle Seahawks won their first game of the season. Seattle’s 24-13 victory in their home opener was an all-around good performance for all facets of the team. Additionally, the outcome was a relief to 12’s everywhere as the Seahawks got off the schneid and are now 1-2 this season.

For weeks, Hawks head coach Pete Carroll was preaching the need for more of a running game. This week he proved it. Seattle ran the ball 39 times, in effect wearing down the Cowboys defense. The passing game wasn’t as prevalent but was successful when needed.

On defense, the Seahawks came after Dallas, early and often. They sacked quarterback Dak Prescott five times and had six other tackles for loss. Ezekiel Elliott rushed for 127 yards, but he is one of the top three running backs in the game. Elliott was going to get his yards. The most important thing was that the defense only allowed one touchdown.
