Seattle Mariners: Top 50 players of all time
By Nick Lee
34. Leon Roberts (1978-1980)
Roberts played three solid seasons as an every day outfielder for the Mariners. He arrived with a bang in 1978.
He played 134 games and hit 22 home runs and had 92 RBI while batting .301. All of those numbers were career highs for Roberts in his 11-year career.
Roberts was also an excellent fielder, mostly in right field. He hit .276 in 393 games for the Mariners in those three years, including 47 home runs.
33. Ken Phelps (1983-1988)
Phelps was mostly a designated hitter, but occasionally played first base for the M’s. Aside from his amazing caterpillar mustache, he was a consistent presence in the lineup.
In his six seasons in Seattle, Phelps hit 105 home runs (10th in franchise history) with a .913 OPS. He hit at least 24 home runs in four of those six years. When he was dealt in 1988, the Mariners received Jay Buhner in exchange.
