Pick 226: Seahawks select Jerod Evans, QB Virginia Tech

The latest news on Trevone Boykin is not good. The Seattle Seahawks were likely to bring in competition for the backup job anyway, and Evans has an interesting blend of size and skills. At 6′ 3″, 233 lbs, he dwarfs both Wilson and Boykin.

On the field, Evans was certainly productive at Virginia Tech, throwing for 3,546 and 29 touchdowns with just eight interceptions. He also compiled over 800 rushing yards and 12 TD’s on the ground.

Evans needs to improve his touch and can get happy feet at times, causing the ball to sail out of his hands. There is definitely some Cam Newton is his game, and he is a fantastic long-term value who can eventually fetch the team a mid-round pick.
