Pick 26: Seahawks select Marlon Humphrey, CB Alabama

There is one huge contingency riding on this pick, and that is the assertion that Garret Bolles, Ryan Ramcyzk and Forrest Lamp are all off the board at pick 26. If they aren’t, Seattle would likely trade down and try to accrue more picks.

Humphrey had mid-first round buzz two months ago, but now slots comfortably into the late first/early second round area. He checks all the boxes of a prototypical Seahawks corner. He stands at 6′ 0″ and weighs in just shy of 200 lbs, with the prerequisite arm length of 32 1/4″.

On the field, Humphrey is an ultra-aggressive defender. Though he can be sloppy at times in his technique, he attacks receivers at the line, knocking weaker wide receivers off their routes quickly. He is described by teammates as “hyper competitive” and his 4.41 speed allows him to recover when beaten.

Humphrey is one of the best tackling corners in this draft. He routinely threw receivers out of his way on screen passes, and is not afraid to mix things up in the running game. It is this blend of skill and attitude that will make him attractive to Pete Carroll to play opposite Richard Sherman.
