106. Jeremy McNichols, RB Boise State

Do you think the Seahawks are trying to add to its RB room? Eddie Lacy was in for a visit this weekend and Adrian Peterson just left. Latavius Murray is scheduled to arrive later today, and Jamaal Charles will follow him. Yes, Seattle wants to add a running back.

The team could be trying to add a running back in free agency so it can focus its draft on defense. Or perhaps because they have no 4th or 5th round picks, they don’t think there is a running back worth taking in the top  picks.

Either way, McNichols is a good fit in Seattle. On tape he shows an ability to run hard, often dragging the pile an extra yard. He has good hands and shows promise as a pass blocker. Scouts rave about his one cut ability and patience at the line.

He doesn’t possess elite breakaway speed, and doesn’t have one stand-out skill that gets people excited. His unique trait that makes him a good fit in the zone blocking scheme is his short area quickness.

Physically, McNichols compares favorably to Thomas Rawls:

McNichols                   Rawls

5’9″                              5’9″

214 lbs                       215 lbs

10 ” hands                 9.5 ” hands

4.49s 40                     4.43s 40

4.28 short shuttle    4.37 SS

6.93s 3 cone              7.1s 3 cone

35.5″ vertical             35.5″ vertical

10.1 ft broad jump   9.67 ft broad jump

As you can see, Rawls and McNichols are very similar. The latter is a more polished receiver and pass blocker than Rawls was coming out of Central Michigan. If the Seahawks add a veteran RB in free agency, expect the pick to change.
