Seattle Mariners: 5 Danny Valencia Career Highlights
By Paul Taylor
With the Seattle Mariners trading for Danny Valencia, we look at some of the best moments of his MLB career to date.
The Seattle Mariners have officially acquired Danny Valencia as they look to strengthen the team for another postseason challenge in 2017. As reported by SportspressNW.com, general manager Jerry Dipoto sent minor league pitcher Paul Blackburn to Oakland in exchange for Valencia.
One of the most interesting aspects of the trade, is where the 32-year old will play in Seattle. He grades poorly these days as a third baseman, but wouldn’t play there anyway, with 2014 Gold Glover winner Kyle Seager firmly entrenched in the position.
The plan is for Valenica to form a first-base platoon with Dan Vogelbach. As a result, this likely means Dae-ho Lee will not be returning next season.
Speaking to Bob Dutton of the The News Tribune, Dipoto said: “There’s very little likelihood that both (Valencia and Lee) will fit on the same roster.”
The arrival of the 2006 19th round draft pick is speculated to also signal the end of Franklin Gutierrez‘s career in Seattle. For now though, we’re going to concentrate on what Valencia potentially brings to the Mariners, by sharing five of his career highlights.
