2) Zach Scott

You have to believe most Sounders’ fans (and indeed the players) feel a heck of a lot safer, when the imposing figure of Roman Torres is lining up in defense. As such, when it was announced he would not play, due to a hamstring strain, there was probably some understandable concern.

However, I will gladly hang my head in shame, that I did not have more faith in his replacement – Mr Sounder himself! Yes, Zach Scott looked a little shaky early on, but there was no way he was going to go down in flames, in potentially his last ever game at the Clink.

Speaking about Scott having to replace Torres, Schmetzer said: “We’ve talked about it – this team, the guys in that locker room work hard every day. Everyone understands the roles of the positions.

So, they might interpret their role a little differently because they’re different personalities — Zach’s a little different than Roman — but the fact of the matter is Zach knows what is expected of him and he does his job.”

We’ve already discussed Jones, but the Sounders’ defense as a whole played extremely well in shutting out the top team in MLS. As Schmetzer said: “We’re always talking about the goals…(but) Zach made plays, Chad Marshall had a huge game, Stef (Frei) and Tyrone (Mears), some of the guys who don’t get enough credit, they made plays at their end too.”
