Seattle Sounders: 3 Takeaways from Dominant Win vs FC Dallas
By Paul Taylor
1) Joevin Jones
Despite being a regular starter for the Sounders this season, Jones will be the first to admit he has struggled at times. (Although to be fair, you could use this assessment for most of the team, especially when Sigi Schmid was still in charge.)
However, something strange happened to the 25-year old on Sunday, when he was substituted near the end of the match. For once, it was so he could receive a standing ovation from the crowd, rather than because he was enduring a tough outing.
In fact, Jones enjoyed his best performance yet in a Sounders shirt. His crosses were pinpoint and his passing was excellent, as he played a key part in all three goals for the home side.
Head coach Brian Schmetzer was asked about his left back’s impact, after the game: “Well, that’s what we expect of him. That’s his job and he’s a talented kid.
“He has a ton of talent and I think you saw a good performance by him tonight, not just because of the two assists, but all around. (He’s) really good one v one defending, and Dallas has some fast attacking players, so a good all around performance by Joevin.”
