As the Seattle Sounders advance to the second round of the MLS playoffs, we share three takeaways from their dramatic late win against Sporting KC.

Consider this step one of the Seattle Sounders‘ revenge tour. After losing twice to Sporting KC during the regular season, they managed to come through when it mattered most.

In addition, Thursday night further solidified the notion that this team will fight for each other to the bitter end. And for that, everyone in the Sounders’ organization should thank Brian Schmetzer, who surely now deserves to have the interim tag removed from his title as head coach.

This game was by no means a masterpiece, as the two sides battled for the right to advance. In fact, at times it was downright hostile, with several moments when the sides squared up to each other.

However, what the game lacked in elegance, it more than made up for with tension and controversy. (More on that later.) In the end though, the Sounders did what they needed to do and advanced to the second round.

In the process, Seattle now get to prepare for step two of their revenge tour, when they take on FC Dallas, who knocked them out of the playoffs in heartbreaking fashion last season. First things first though, here are three takeaways from the dramatic 1-0 win over Sporting KC.
