The Huskies exorcised some demons last night with a 70-21 rout of the Oregon Ducks, their first win against the Phil Knights since 2003.

Led by quarterback Jake Browning’s eight total touchdowns–six by pass, two by run–the Huskies clobbered their rivals to the south in Eugene 70-21. The Ducks simply couldn’t cover the Huskies’ receivers. John Ross, Dante Pettis, and Jomon Dotson all scored touchdowns and all had receptions of 26 yards or more in the win. Ross went for nine catches for 94 yards and three TDs.

The Huskies led 35-7 at halftime, and the crowd at Autzen Stadium couldn’t believe their eyes. They were witnessing a changing of the guard in the Pac-12, the end of the era of the Ducks and the rise of the Huskies.

Sorry to get all Game of Thrones on you, but this destruction of the neighborhood bully that has owned UW for 12 years is a huge win, even if the final score was a laugher. The Ducks haven’t been able to reload after losing so much talent to the NFL and pesky graduation in recent years. Their famed coach is now trying to resurrect Blaine Gabbert with the 49ers, and their time ruling the Northwest appears to be over.

At 6-0, the Huskies have already vanquished two foes that have been their perennial roadblocks in the recent past. They are now a power in the Pac-12 and could be heading for a chance to play for the National Championship. But there are still six games to play, including a road date with the 24th-ranked Utah Utes and what should be a bitter Apple Cup regular season finale with the Cougars, who, late last night, also routed Stanford to stay perfect in Pac-12 play.

The way the Huskies’ defense and offense are playing right now, it’s tough to see them losing to Oregon State next week, but that doesn’t mean they still need our support. Let’s continue this exciting season for the Dawgs.
