No matter how well or badly a team is doing, they will often look to their star player(s) to do something to inspire them. In this respect, Dempsey will be the first to admit he’s not performed to his true capabilities this season.

However, whether it be adapting to a new system, missing playing alongside Obafemi Martins or whatever, the 33-year old refused to make any excuses. He put it squarely on his shoulders, as he attempted to return to the form which saw him regularly punish opposing defenses during the last two seasons.

Fortunately for the Sounders, Dempsey appears to have gotten back on track just in the nick of time. His two goals on Sunday gave him five for August, after only scoring three during the previous four months of the season.

Yes, Nicolas Lodeiro is a significant reason behind the run of three straight wins. However, make no mistake about it, Seattle needs Dempsey to continue this rich vein of form, if they are to complete their turnaround and qualify for the playoffs.
