Other Notes

The Mariners’ first-round pick Kyle Lewis is done for the year after tearing multiple ligaments in his knee during a home plate collision. He had been tearing it up for the Everett Aquasox and all reports show he’s a great guy who loves the game. Hopefully he makes a speedy recovery.

The Mariners lost on Tuesday, the day ROOT Sports has Jay Buhner in the booth. I swear they lose every time he’s in there calling a game. Does anyone have a record for that?

The Mariners traded Mike Montgomery and AAA pitcher Jordan Pries to the Chicago Cubs for AAA 1B/DH Dan Vogelbach and AA pitcher Paul Blackburn. I don’t think this shows the Mariners are sellers because Montgomery was in a weird swing spot in the rotation and with Felix back and with Walker only on the 15-day DL, he wasn’t going to start for much longer. Plus Charlie Furbush is set to return soon, so his spot in the bullpen may have been in question as well.

I also think that the Vogelbach addition opens the door for trading D.J. Peterson. He’s having a good year but he also had one in 2014 before a terrible 2015 campaign. He’s blocked at 1B and DH with Lee, Lind, and Cruz there and he’s not going to get playing time at 3B because of Kyle Seager. He’s not the top hitting prospect he was a few years ago and his stock is as high as it’s going to be.

If it helps bring a quality bullpen arm or speedy outfielder to Seattle I say pull the trigger, Jerry.
