The Pac-12 football schedule will be as tough as ever for the UW Huskies. But they start with three non-conference games at home to start the 2016 season.

Looking at the UW Huskies‘ football schedule for 2016, I see the same difficult Pac-12 road we saw last year, but I also saw an opportunity for Chris Petersen’s crew to get started on the right foot with three non-conference games at Husky Stadium to start the year. Games against Rutgers, Idaho, and Portland State lead off the UW Huskies schedule in 2016.

These three games will be crucial for the UW Huskies to gain some confidence before the Pac-12 schedule starts.

Before I continue, here’s the entire UW Huskies schedule in case you missed it:

Sat., Sept. 3 – RUTGERS
Sat., Sept. 10 – IDAHO
Sat., Sept. 17 – PORTLAND STATE
Sat., Sept. 24 – at Arizona
Fri., Sept. 30 – STANFORD
Sat., Oct. 8 – at Oregon
Sat., Oct. 15 – bye
Sat., Oct. 22 – OREGON STATE (Homecoming)
Sat., Oct. 29 – at Utah
Sat., Nov. 5 – at California
Sat., Nov. 12 – USC
Sat., Nov. 19 – ARIZONA STATE
Fri., Nov. 25 – at Washington State
Fri., Dec. 2 – Pac-12 Championship Game

Immediately following the three home non-conference cupcake schedule, the UW Huskies will travel to Tucson to face Arizona, never an easy place to play for the Montlake crew. Still, that Arizona game may be tough, but it’s winnable, and if the UW Huskies want to get a good start to the season and get a Pac-12 win under their belts, they will have to get tuned up and dialed in during their three-game opening homestand.

The UW Huskies had an active, ball-hawking defense last year but couldn’t stay consistent all year. A fast start to this season is critical to making noise in the Pac-12. Who knows? They could be waiting in the weeds to surprise a few teams in the conference this coming season.
