The Minnesota Twins hit eight home runs off of Mariners pitching in their three-game sweep of Seattle at Safeco Field. The Twins won today 5-4, chasing Mariners starter Taijuan Walker in the fifth inning and scoring all five runs against him. Joe Mauer went yard for the third time in three games this series. He and Miguel Sano went back-to-back against Walker in the fourth inning.
The Twins quelled a furious comeback by the Mariners Saturday night, getting a 2-4-5-6 double play when third baseman Kyle Seager got caught in a run-down, only to get pinch runner Shawn O’Malley out at third and eventually himself as well. It… was a strange play. Starter Wade Miley gave up three home runs and took the loss.
Twins starter Pat Dean got a win over Felix Hernandez and the Mariners in his second major league start, leading the Twins to a 7-2 win. Hernandez allowed a season-high six runs on eight hits. The Twins struck for five in the third inning and beat Hernandez for the first time since 2011.
The Mariners fell out of first place in the AL West as a result of their sweep at the hands of the worst team in the American League. They are now 10-14 at home and trail the Texas Rangers by a half-game in the division.
