After a disheartening end to an otherwise productive homestand, the Mariners will try to shake off recent struggles against the Baltimore Orioles.

More from Seattle Mariners

In a couple hours, the Mariners will begin another road trip with a game against the Baltimore Orioles. The Orioles are in first place in the American League East, tied with Boston with a 23-13 record. Unlike the Mariners, the Orioles have cleaned up at home, starting the season 16-6 at Camden Yards. The Mariners have played much better on the road than at home this season, going 13-6 away from Safeco Field.

Expect to see the ball leaving the yard early and often during this series. Even though former Mariner All-Star Adam Jones has been off to a slow start, Baltimore has still hit the most home runs in the league. Another ex-Mariner, outfielder/first baseman Mark Trumbo, is slashing .307/.362/.593 with 11 home runs for his new team. The Mariners are second in the league in home runs.

Even though the Mariners are reeling from a sweep at home by one of the worst teams in the American League, the Angels, Nick Lee of Sodo Mojo urged Mariner fans to R-E-L-A-X. Mariners manager Scott Servais said in a recent interview featured on the official Mariners website that “You’re going to have bumps in the road. I thought the Angels came in here, they played us very well, we were right in every game, and we just didn’t get it done. And that’s going to happen.”

The mood for most Mariners fans now I think is to hold off on the panic button. We’re still tied for first place after the Texas Rangers lost yesterday, after all. Bob Nightengale of USA Today found the Mariners’ clubhouse very positive during his interviews for an article he released yesterday. In Nightengale’s piece, today’s starting pitcher Wade Miley said, “This is the most fun I’ve ever had.” A good sign for team chemistry and a winning attitude going forward.

Catch the Mariners taking on the Orioles at Camden Yards today at 4pm.
