After a historic night at Safeco Field Monday and another win last night, the Mariners sit at 20-13, first place in the American League West. Here are three surprising stats that stick out to me so far.

First of all, congratulations to Felix Hernandez for breaking Jamie Moyer’s all-time wins record for the Mariners. It’s amazing he’s only won 146 games, but hopefully this will be the year the King wins 20. Hernandez was helped on Monday by shortstop Ketel Marte, who had a career night at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a crucial three-run home run and two doubles. If Marte can keep his average near .280 for the season with some steals thrown in, he’ll be an offensive difference-maker to add to his improving defense.

With the Mariners in first place, I took a look at some numbers to find out how we got here. I found three particularly surprising statistics for the Mariners as a team so far this season.
