Seahawks NFL Draft Review: Rounds 1-3
By Justin Floor
Day 2- Round 3- Pick# 97- Rees Odhiambo, OG, Boise St
There we go. It wouldn’t be a Seahawks NFL draft without a headscratcher.
Odhiambo was forever injured in college and his frame makes it difficult to project him to a definitive position. He’s not quite long enough to stay at tackle but seemingly not strong or durable enough to move inside. For what it’s worth, the team is listing him as a guard, where he will likely jump into the battle for left side duties, currently held by the disappointing Justin Britt.
There were rumblings that Seattle liked Odhiambo and they were validated with this pick. Because the team no longer has a 4th round choice as a result of the Jarran Reed trade-up, I imagine this was a pick made in lieu of having selection# 124. It feels like this would have been a pick more suited for that spot, but since the next selection Seattle has is over 70 spots away, they wanted to make sure they got this player for fear of him not being available at the end of the 5th round.
Early Grade: D
It’s a reach for a player that was injured each of the last three seasons in college. That usually translates to a lot of down time in the pros. He’s athletic and coachable when healthy though, which prevents an ‘F’ grade.
